The Fitness
Center
The Fitness Center is home to the Reaching
New Heights
physical fitness program for older adults that has been underway since
1993. The Center is staffed by Exercise Physiologist, Mark Modifica.
Mark provides residents with a customized conditioning plan at no
charge, and monitors progress towards their individual wellness goals.
The state-of-the art fitness center is equipped with a circuit line of
Nautilus strength training equipment, covering all the major muscle
groups, along with cardiovascular stations including
treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and NuSteps. The equipment , based upon
current scientific research and evaluation, is designed to enhance
cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and to help reduce the risk
of injury.
Funded in part by a grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public
Giving, and by many private donors, this supervised program of exercise
classes, weight resistance and aerobic training offers key elements to
healthy aging.
The Fitness Center program improves the well-being of our residents.
Some benefits include prevention of falls through improved balance,
prevention of fractures by increasing muscle strength, prevention of
osteoporosis by building bone mass, even prevention of depression by
improving a sense of well being.
